'Tis the last day of 2008 and it's almost time to put your party hats on, crank 'Circus' up as loud as your speakers (and neighbors) will allow and pop some champagne corks. I'm usually in bed by midnight on New Year's (party animal, me), but this year I will be right by the DJ booth requesting all my favorite Britney songs.

Britney has made tremendous strides this year in what isn't really a comeback because she didn't go anywhere! Britney's music was only part of her impressive year. Here is a recap of the rest of Brit's exciting 2008!

Britney really caught people's attention this year when she made a guest appearance on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother on March 24. Her appearance gave the show its highest ever ratings, and it was no surprise she was invited to guest on a second episode that aired May 12. She was later nominated for a People's Choice Award for the role.

2008 was such a whirlwind year for Britney's music. There is no better time to sit back and reflect than now, with 2009 right around the corner. Here is a quick little recap of ALL the amazing things Britney did in her professional music career this year.

In the very beginning of the year, Britney's third single 'Break the Ice' from her fifth studio album Blackout was released. The song reached number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. The music video debuted on TRL on March 17 featuring a very sexy anime version of Brit.

On September 7, Britney won THREE MTV Video Music Awards in the categories 'Best Female Video,' 'Best Pop Video' and 'Video Of The Year' for 'Piece of Me.'

Just a week later, Jive released a statement announcing the title of Britney's sixth studio album, Circus. The first single, 'Womanizer' was released on September 26. On October 15 the song jumped to number one, breaking records in the process.

Britney must not have had her fill of Japanese food while visiting the country. Just a day after returning to the United States she was spotted out eating more sushi at Asia de Cuba in Los Angeles for lunch with her dad Jamie.

According to someone else at the restaurant Britney "looked really happy and [was] smiling."

Of course she was happy -- eating sushi makes me feel that way too! Anyone else craving a rainbow roll now?

I saw this performance from WoWoWee, a television show in the Philippines, and I had to share. It's a pretty good rendition of Britney's Christmas song 'My Only Wish' performed by Valerie Concepcion, Nikki Gil and Roxanne Guinoo.



The girls look so beautiful and you can just feel the energy coming from them and the crowd. :)

Now if I could just find myself one of those bronze dresses for New Years!

Talk about the ideal Christmas present! These two Australian Britney fans, Laura and Kleo, entered a contest to win the chance to meet Britney. All they had to do was explain in 25 words or less why they deserved the chance to meet Brit (easier said then done when you're competing with a world full of fans)... but they won!

The two gorgeous girls flew in to Japan from Australia, all expenses paid. They got to meet Britney and talk with her (video coming soon) and also met Larry, Wade, Amanda, the make up peeps and stylist and all the dancers before Britney's performance on NTV's Best Artist 2008.

They took some pics on red carpet and got to watch Britney's performance up close.

Oh, and we've been getting a lot of emails asking for the dancers' names, so since it's Christmas, and the time for giving.... the dancers' names from left to right are... Devin, Frances, Jose, Brooke, Alex and JP. :) Happy Xmas!

Seems like Britney 'Circus' fashion is really taking off. Last night Paula Abdul was on The Late Show with David Letterman and she was wearing the exact same ringmaster coat Britney wore during her dance rehearsals and at the very beginning of her 'Circus' performance on Good Morning America.

Circus has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's European Top 100 Albums chart. Britney's sixth studio album is now No. 1 in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, Switzerland, Brazil and Taiwan. Whew! The album is also at the top spot on the Billboard Top Digital Albums chart.

'Circus' the single is doing pretty fantastically too and is currently No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 1 on the Digital Songs chart and is the iLike Libraries Most Added track (with 'Womanizer' right behind at No. 2.)

And it doesn't stop there... 'Shattered Glass' is at No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 'If U Seek Amy' is at No. 86.

There are only three days left in the Fuse Best Music Video of 2008 battle! As we told you before, Brit is up against Paramore and the numbers are hidden so we have no idea how close the race is.

The official winner will be announced during the Fuse television special on this Saturday at 7:00 ET(PT)/ 6:00 CT. It's called the Top 40 of 2008: The Good, The Bad & The Britney.

Our girl is in the title of the show, so we have to make sure she ends up on top!

Britney Spears is no doubt used to the ups and downs that life throws her way. But the 27-year-old pop princess might not be accustomed to dealing with such a high and a low all in the same day.

E! Online reports that Spears' comeback album, Circus, has entered the Billboard 200 album chart at #1, selling an astonishing 505,000 copies in its first week of release.



Spears is the first artist to have four albums debut with 500,000-plus copies since SoundScan, the current method used to tally record sales, was launched in 1991.

Brit is now fifth overall among female artists with the most No. 1 albums, trailing only Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson.

Alas, some spoilsports always have to come along and rain on the parade.

Looks like 'Circus' wasn't the only Britney album to shake up the charts this week. According to MTV.com  'Blackout' has made its way BACK in to the Billboard 200 after selling more than 4,600 copies and is now at #198.

Maybe now is the time to go out and buy those old Britney albums you never got round to getting in the past. Let's get all EIGHT (if you include Greatest Hits: My Prerogative
and B in the Mix: The Remixes) of Britney's albums in the charts! Wouldn't that be epic?!

Not to brag but... Traci and I were total VIPs last night at an event featuring Britney's most well-known impersonator Derrick Barry. He invited us to his show at Rage in West Hollywood and OF COURSE we jumped at the chance to go! We were dancing and hollering on the balcony, which was the absolute best spot in the house to view the show!

Derrick performed a 'Womanizer-Circus' remix first, then he and celebrity artist Nick San Pedro came up to meet us mid-show. Derrick and Nick were sssoooo sweet... totally new BFF/top friends on MySpace. (LOL)

Traci was camera-lady for the night and did a fab job getting loadsa pics of D. I took some footage too that you can see after the jump. :)

One of the many highlights of the night was when some paparazzi showed up thinking the REAL Britney was at the club. Derrick totally punk'd the paps!

Loving every minute of it.

Entertainment Tonight interviewed Britney's manager Larry Rudolph about #1 album Circus and he just couldn't stop gushing.



He shares some awesome insider information -- like the fact that Britney sat down and wrote 'My Baby' at her piano in her home.

When it comes to the single 'Circus' Larry says "I believe that that's the best song she has had in the past five years," later adding "There are songs that you hear that just slap you across the face and that's what 'Circus' is. It is an undeniable smash."

Between 'Womanizer' and 'Circus' I have to agree -- what a one-two punch!

I'm freaking out-of-my-mind ecstatic to report that Britney's 'Circus' is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, making this her fifth No. 1 album.

Our birthday wish for her almost came true as she as sold 505,000 copies in the U.S., making her the first artist in Nielsen SoundScan history to have four albums debut with 500,000 or more.

Hell to the yeah!

Well it's not the belly baring costumes of Circus, but there's definitely a charm to what Britney Spears was wearing when caught out on the street last week with daytime queen-pin Ellen DeGeneres.

The two ladies were in full Dickens regalia: Spears, 27, in a red velvet bonnet with lace trim and and an ankle-length hoop skirt, who strolled along with 50-year-old Degeneres on a residential street in Los Angeles.

Us Weekly obtained images of the duo carrying what appeared to be a songbook as they strolled, singing along. Another shot shows the pair dancing in the middle of the street.

If Ellen's Paris Hilton Day of Fun is any indication, the Holiday foibles that Mrs. Portia de Rossi has in store for Spears should be nothing short of genius.

Sony BMG Sweden had an early Britney birthday / Circus release party over the weekend. The shindig was held at one of Sweden's most legendary clubs called Sturecompagniet in Stockholm.

These Swedes look like they are having a ton of fun. Those I <3 Britney shirts are cute -- and check out the bigger-than-lifesize cardboard cutout of Brit. I have got to get three of those: One for me, and the others for Jen and Meriah's Christmas presents!

Britney is now in the final round of Fuse's Best Music Video of 2008 and she's up against Paramore's "That's What You Get."

For this round Fuse has taken down the numbers -- so we have no idea where Britney stands. I looked last night before I went to bed and Paramore was winning by about 7,000. That means we have some catching up to do, Brit fans! PLEASE vote!

Britney came in as 'Top Searched Celebrity' in AOL's 2008 Year End Hottest Searches, beating Angelina, Miley and Paris to the post! Pshh, was there ever any competition?!


And, according to Yahoo, "Britney Spears has been the most popular search term and person for  seven out of eight years." They credit her three MTV Music Awards, the new album, her guest-starring role on How I Met Your Mother and the documentary, Britney: For The Record, for making her the top searched term this year.
